Do you mean, are real women's experiences of pregnancy anything like Franny's
spiritual crisis? If that's what you're asking, and speaking from my own two-
pregnancy experience, I would have to say, absolutely not. I was very
unspiritual, unintellectual, uncerebral during my pregnancies. My body was
god. That was pretty much all I thought about, and it was fascinating to
notice the changes. I could hardly talk to anybody but other pregnanct women,
so absorbed was I in all this. I could have seen "Way of a Pilgrim" lying on
the street and just stepped around it. Absolutely nothin' like Franny. Does
this help any?
