For anyone who is interested in the idea of a reading group conducted by mailing list, which we discussed a few weeks ago, there is now one in place: BananaBooks! To join, send mail to: listproc@lists.nyu.edu Leave the subject line empty and let the body of the message say: subscribe bananabooks FIRSTNAME LASTNAME ... where, of course, you substitute your own name for "FIRSTNAME LASTNAME" in the example above. There is no book yet proposed for discussion. I suggest that you join the list and, after you have received and read the "welcome" message, introduce yourself and offer a handful of titles you'd like to see under discussion. There's no reason why multiple books can't be under discussion, if you use a subject line that indicates the title in brackets, e.g.: [WUTHERING HEIGHTS] Why Heathcliff should be on MTV [PORTNOY'S COMPLAINT] How come Nathan Zuckerman has back pains? We can toss a few titles around and see how things work out. Cheers to all, and a salute to the subscriber who suggested this idea! --tim o'connor
