Maybe you're confusing it with plays ... there is after all that thing
Zooey says about getting sick of playwrights shoving down their silly
curtains or whatever it is ... Salinger always seems to have a bit of an
ambivalent relationship with acting and plays - after all, taking on the
persona of a fictional person would have to be the highest form of
phoniness ever, theoretically, but the Glasses, the theatrical parents
especially, have always functioned as a locus of truth.
