Helllo all, I'm new to this list. My name is Varena I now live in California,
and my english is no so well, so please excuse any mistakes I might make.

I was wondering what all of you're opinions are on phoniness in Catcher In
The Rye. I've noticed there's many levels of it in the book. For instance,
readers can be filtered out with some of the more questionable moments in the
book. Like whether or not Holden is writing from an institute, the book
never directly says so but it could be inferred. Also the whole situation
with Mr. Antolli (sp?) .. that is, whether he is actually a pedophile (is
that the correct word?) or not. Also, Holden's own phoniness. It seems he
acts like one with certain people. I was also wondering what an exact
definition is of 'phony'. What are all of you're opinions?
