Good point. I completely missed that those were Holden's words -
mostly because I was paying so little attention to this thread, but
not completely. I did read your post and thought to myself how
Salingerial (new word) it was, but I wasn't expecting anything on
topic so it just went over my head.

Scottie seemed to pick up on it... kudos to him.

Back to Salinger, I say. I just reread Zooey. Still in love with
him, by the way. The way Salinger creates the family dynamic in this
story still bowls me over. I have been trying to get my sister to
read F&Z for years. She kept my hardcover copy, but never read it.
About a week ago I called her and read several choice snippets of
Bessie and Zooey's bathroom conversation and had Amanda (the sister
in question) doubled over with laughter. We have some personal
experience with a well-intentioned albeit completely invasive mother.

So, another hit for JD. Three cheers...
