I must say that when I read the following message, I was startled (to say
the least). After a bit of thought, I suppose that maybe this could
possibly be a typical response of a thinking person only exposed to the
modern bastardization of the musical form (given the grievous examples
provided). But if you ask me (again, after) to explain the preceding
statement I will quickly deny ever thinking it much less writing it, as (for
myself) I don't think of Music as anything less than magical.

At what point, brothers and sisters, did music split from Music to become
mere entertainment? Was it the fault of Classical music? Elvis? The
radio? Country Joe? Miles (listening to too much Jimi)? Mtv?

Yet, true Music is still being whispered through the leaves, carried by the
wind, caught by 8 year old Indian boys. They compose songs in a language
they haven't used since 1876. Songs which make old men sing (and remember).
Songs which make the young dance (and remember). Music, carried by the wind
(pried from its aboriginal shell(coffin)), has been caught by those such as
La Monte Young, Terry Riley, Steve Reich...modern electronic music
producers. I wonder...what must their dreams be like? Dolphins leap out of
the prairie grasses. Patterns rising out of patterns. Up into the air.
Just to realize/we have a circle.

Let's remember that some music is a form of prayer. Two-way prayer, like
some sort of spiritual walkie-talkie. I doubt you'd hear this coming from
any speaker. I highly doubt it.

Yes, most of us have not been transported (transcended) by Music (sad). Our
long-ago (forgotten? remembered?) loved have not been spoken to, since they
died. Tell me this, whose fault is it for not listening? Music has many
uses, let's not let small things such as emotion and thought get in its way.

How come the world thinks music is a religion?
Everyone hails all these musicians, those who
committed suicide, those that didn't. He's a genius,
she's a genius and all that talk. When you turn the
TV, all you see are these teenagers who sings songs
that don't make sense ...like "baby hit me one more
time" or "my name is my name is my name is", or those
that sing songs but i can't understand them because
they keep banging their heads up and down and the
background sounds louder than the voices.

then there are those that don't want to wear clothes,
for example "thank you india, thank you providence
..." and then they say again "oh she's such a genius".
                she's naked and she's a genius? so when i take a
shower that means i'm a genius?

and then there's "livin la vida loca ...livin la vida
loca" and then now it's "shake your bon bon shake your
                bon bon"

then this other one says "it's not right but it's
                okay"

My point is I HATE MUSIC!!!! Okay hate is a little
strong, I should say "it's not right but it's okay."
But why is the world having a love affair with music?
If you can pick between books and music, why do people
                pick music? I don't get it. I really don't.
