Sigh. Well, you might go to the online Strunk & White at
http://www.bartleby.com/141/strunk5.html and pop down to Rule #11, Use the
Active Voice. The table that he uses for examples of passive v. active are
quite fine, and Mr. Strunk (with the help of Mr. White) makes the admission
that, in fact, the passive voice is better in some situations.

The whole thing is online at the Bartleby Great Books online project, along
with many others that I am sure folks around here will find handy.

However, to those who think that the internet will phase out publishing, I
find that I prefer my dog-eared copy for reference, if it is at all handy.
The screen just doesn't hold the same aesthetic pleasure as the page.
