here are my views on bananafish:
seymour should not even be associated with the word pedophile. his intentions
have nothing to do with anything other than himself and his own
self-improvement methods. seymour is interested in finding a way out, and at
the point where he is talking to sybil, he is looking for an escape, or
somehow searching for a sign that will prove to him that everyone in the
world is not a phony, another association to holden. unfortunately, he does
not find what he is looking for and this is what pushes him over the edge to
kill himself later that day. muriel has already pointed him down that path,
as well as many others he must have previously encountered to base his
assumptions of human nature on. i just wrote an essay on nine stories which
i am waiting to get back, and when i do i will let you know, i think i am
forgetting a few things. - jessica
