Perhaps as a writer you might find a few of them interesting.  (That was
Tom Wolfe, the contemporary journalist and novelist, I mentioned -- not
Thomas Wolfe, who published with Scribner's.)

As I said, some of these writers might be inspirations for today's writers
-- though perhaps not for you.  I confess that I have a hard time knowing
how anybody who is a writer today could not have heard of at least one of
those names on the list I mentioned.  (For instance, Kurt Vonnegut?  Thomas
Pynchon?  Is it possible that you never heard who they are?)  Or, perhaps
you are being mindful of David Foster Wallace, and this message is one of
infinite jest.  8-)
