Although this is not a film praised by anyone I've ever known, it is based
on "UncleWiggily in Connecticut" which is a story that Warren French
believes is at the center of Salinger's fiction.  French uses a dichotomy
between phony and nice to understand salinger's characters in
general...what makes me link it to some of our discussions is that the
concept of "subtle condescension" also seems to be part of the story...

As a teacher I'm used to listening to lots of opinions--some well thought
out and some well, not thought out...I think the list discussion, which
does parallel class discussions at times, welcomes much more crap than I
would in a class--no condescension implied--just a fact that not
everything posted by all baanafish is bound to elicit desired
responses--those who complain about that are rarely among the posts I
value...will
