In a message dated 98-01-22 14:30:00 EST, you write: << Do I understand these to be the expressions of a now fashionably `dumbed-down' America ? >> Scottie, I don't know why I continue to waste my time like this, but I assure you this will be the last time I do. We are here to have fun, to discuss the works of JD Salinger. We are not here to dicuss grammar, though I'm sure if you wanted to start a grammar list you could do so with a good response. Please, if you have something to say, just try to keep a jovial spirit instead of pointing out technical flaws in logic. Most of us are not looking for help with a college thesis but if we were, we would be sure to let you know. Despite having been published, etc, the wonderful thing about opinions is that everyone has one and everyone has the right to it. So have your opinions, but please stop stating them in a manner that might cause someone to stop posting intelligent commentary just because they misssssspelllll something. Some subscribers, I believe, are still in eighth grade, for god's sakes, and I worry that you would be hurting their desire to discuss literature rather than helping them, simply by intimidation. Not to mention that the overwhelming amount of posts have been from you or someone responding to you (Myself being, admittedly, one of the most consistently annoying buggers) and it seems that this list has changed focus from Bananas to Bowman. Please just try to tighten up your tone and be a little bit more forgiving about simple mistakes; while we all strive for perfection no one has gotten there yet, and in the meantime, we are just looking to have some fun discussing the works of an author who we all respect for multitudes of reasons. Thank you and now I'm shutting up... -ecas
