Yes, Ranchan did publish the book. In at least one incarnation, it is called _J.D. Salinger's The Glass Family, An Adventure in Vedanta_ (isbn 81-202-0245-7). Ajanta Publications did the job out of Jawahar Nagar, Delhi-110007. I was able to get a copy directly from the publisher, but that was nearly five years ago. I remember being sufficiently edified by the book, which makes a strong case for a very specific reading and more or less leaves all other attempts at the subject looking like casual speculation. But useful specifics escape me. Elizabeth Kurian did a book, also published out of India, largely on the Glass family called _A Religious Response to the Existential Dilemma in the Fiction of J.D. Salinger_, though useful information escapes me even further on this one. Both were far more interesting than Alsen's book on the Glass stories as a composite novel. -- Matt Kozusko mkozusko@parallel.park.uga.edu
