... which would imply that, one day, his works will be completed. And
strangely enough, it even implies that one day they *will* be finished and
published which is something that didn't come across to me in any other
such snippet - I always got the impression he never wanted to publish
again. It offers us, perhaps, the tiniest ray of hope. I am enticed to
wonder on the tantalising possibility that Salinger *is* near the end of
whatever this magnificent multi-volumed work is - even that the delay of
Hapworth 16 could be the result of the time it takes to put the finishing
touches on a work spanning 35 years.

Well, we can always hope and dream ...
