in the introduction to a paperback version of _a cockwork orange_ that i
read a few years back it said that the slang used by alex and his droogs was
supposed to reflect the influence of communist propaganda from the ussr...
or something to that effect... the words are purposely taken from russian
and anglicized...
_the clockwork orange_ also refers to the 1978 dutch soccer squad i think...
(they played like clockwork and had orange jerseys you see...)
