Jim - to answer these questions wouldn't Mattis (or anyone) have to go
outside those same bounds that Mattis has in writing his `continuation'?
Aren't you *really* just asking him to perpetuate his so called `wrong'
Holden (I actually think you got him down pretty well, Mattis and still see
no problem in the happy revelation of Holden's father. For - possibly - one
day maybe he used to want to be a catcher too?) in doing so? This is a
perfect illustration of the way everyone has their own perception of
characters - and also have their own ways of filling in the gaps our author
has left us. Thus - don't you think that `leaving' the world of the text
has little other value than that of passing entertainment? This is exactly
what the Fan Fiction I talked about is, admittedly - but I wouldn't propose
it as the fodder of discussion.
