> I know someone earlier wrote about Holden's parents and why they do not appear in the book. When I first read Catcher I really wanted to see what Holden's parents were like. Now I realize that Salinger did not include any encounters with the parents because they were so detached from Holden's life. They sent him away to school and did not associate with their son and his problems. They were not active in their son's life. I know families that are similar, they don't eat together, talk to each other, and the parents have no part in their childrens lives until they get into serious trouble. I suppose that Salinger only included people in the book who Holden associated with or cared about, or people that truly cared about Holden. -Liz Friedman _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
