Subject: a little nothing

Hello everyone,
I couldn't help thinking when I saw that Paul M. had written
"When I was younger I checked into New Age philosophy and ended up
realizing I had wasted time on garbage" that every age had one time
been the New Age and has had its philosophy perceived by degrees as
new garbage, radical thought, mainstream zeitgeist, and old garbage.
I think Russel in his survey doesn't think anyone did a good job.
Perhaps it is the whole job of philosophers to have people read and
reject them (well, those you can actually read, Scottie).
On another unrelated topic, I had picked up a book at the old library,
a book of poems by Galway Kinnell which caught my eye only because
Bruce had mentioned the name some weeks ago (and perhaps because of the
occasional celticisation (note the "s") of the this list) and I wanted to
save this little comment until Bruce returned. The book is called Body Rags,
and what I felt was worth mentioning here (other than the fact that he is
indeed a fine poet to read and like, as though he needs my approbation)
is that there a poem with a long title something like "The Correspondence
School Instructor Says Goodbye to his Poetry Students". Shades of DeDaumier
Smith, the poem is really nice and reminiscent of the Salinger story.
It's too long to copy here, and I already brought the book back (good
citizen that I am, though they have hung a bronze plaque near the checkout
desk in honor of all the support we have provided via overdue fines).
keep cool,
Mattis
