In yesterday's NYTimes "Week In Review" section, page 2 included a
report from John D. Thomas called "Critics 'R' Us: Shakespeare Was a
Hack." Thomas is commenting on the reviews readers "publish" on
amazon and of course, Catcher is one of the examples used. Salinger
is in good company. The other books mentioned in the article with
several reviewer sentences were Ulysses by Joyce, the Odyssey by
Homer, War and Peace by Tolstoy, Macbeth by Shakespeare, Lolita by
Nabakov and the Bible. The article is pretty simplistic and cites
some amusing comments from readers, but what I really enjoyed is how
naturally Catcher part of this stellar group of texts...will
