There is an "olive" reference in _The Inverted Forest_ right before Mr.
Raymond Ford, "probably the finest poet in America" runs away with Bunny
Croft, leaving his wife behind.

Mr. Ford has some trouble getting his key into his appartment door, asks
his wife if she thinks he is drunk, and when she replies that yes, she
thought he had been drinking, he responds in a loud voice that he had
eaten an olive from "her" Martini glass [meaning Bunny Croft].

Since I actually was in the middle of reading the story for the first
time when I read this post this morning, I still haven't finished it and
so feel unprepared to discuss whether this is any sort of confirmation
or not to the original idea/theory.

I'll get back with you if it's at all interesting, but thought you who
have read it would like the reminder.
