Britt, you are right! I stopped any formal association with Chris
Kubica before the book was complete and before the publisher decided
to include letters from the web. We had already culled the best of
what was there for the book's other sections when I was still active
on the project. You are also right to feel the effect of the letters
in general on Salinger. As I worked on the book, I thought wondered
why so many people felt it was ok to tug on poor old Salinger's soul,
as if a piece of him was free for the taking....will
