I thought I would point something out about digression. Don't get
exasperated- I have a point. In Catcher in the Rye, Salinger wrote about
digression, and people yelling digression at people, which is what I assume
Zazie was talking about. And Holden felt bad, because if a person is into
what they are talking about, it isn't nice to yell digression at them. So
whether we are being Salingeristas or digressing, it doesn't really matter as
long as we are enjoying the conversation. We have to assume that of course,
Salinger will probably be the start and finish of a lot of the conversations,
as he should be, because that is the reason we are on this list. But if
someone decides to talk about Eastern Religions or some of the very
interesting topics that y'all have talked about, than let's!
Britt.
P.S. Has anyone read some of the letters at the Letters to J.D. Salinger
site? I read some the other day, and frankly, some of them were so bad I
don't blame him for being a recluse. The ones from some of the students were
scary. I can just imagine them at their computers with their homework
assigment sheets in front of them, with all things you should include in your
letter to get an A.
