Oh, I think if you love Salinger's voice and if the adolescent character in
the letter (which it what it really represents -- something like Holden on
intellectual steroids, rather than a precocious seven year old boy...that's
what I can't stand about it), I can see loving the work. But that's what
people hate about it. Its voice doesn't match the character. It's not a
seven year old. It's maybe a remarkable adolescent, but we're not allowed to
think it's an adolescent. And above all else, it's an adolescent, and maybe
Salinger, in love with his own voice.

If you love that voice too, good for you :) Most people don't love it quite
THAT much :)
