In your way of thinking wouldn't the holes themselves be the most political
part? I know John O., tribesman dancing around the fire or manicured
professionals chasing white dimpled balls around mega acre recreational
facilities, your needs are simple. Concerning Golf in politics, there was a
day when a young officer couldn't hope for much more than Captain without
frequent course visits with his betters but now all that has, for the most
part, migrated to institutions of higher learning.

It's very easy and quite common to hurt yourself between holes, depending on
which two holes the between lies.

I must change my rhetoric for you John O.; instead of 'ever before the law'
it must be 'ever between the holes'. Do you have a cart or do you use a
caddy to carry your club between holes? I am guessing caddy with a towel to
wipe your balls off frequently.

Jim, don't worry about John O. When it comes to myths for him, what's the
indifference?
Daniel

Hi Jim,

Actually, that was an expression of indifference, which is why I kept out of
the conversation. And, though I did think the history-of-text stuff was
somewhat interesting, all the hocus-pocus god story stuff leaves me with the
same feeling I had as a kid watching the tribesmen dance around the fire on
National Geographic specials. It might be anthropologically interesting,
but I just don't see any need for it myself.

And, since you asked, I find the the question of the relationship between
language, rhetoric, and politics to be a very complicated one and probably
not best discussed or even usefully discussed in this sort of forum. So I'm
happy to let that go and just reaffirm that there's plenty of political
action happening between holes (and on the golf course as well).

All the best,

--John (recalling the old joke about the guy calling the doctor after his
wife is injured between the first and second hole....)
