> I recently read an interview that Courtney Love did of Stevie Nicks where she > asks her what "Gold Dust Woman", a song Stevie wrote, was about. At first > Stevie tried to explain what she thought is was about (mostly cocaine) and > then Courtney chimed in with what her interpretation was. After hearing > Courtney's ideas, Stevie threw up her hands and admitted she wasn't sure > *what* the song was really about, that it couldn't just be about cocaine. And > she wrote the song! This reminds me of a famous incident in REM's (illustrious) history. Someone was telling Michael Stipe (lead singer, for the uninitiated) that a line in his song `Sitting Still' sounded like `We could gather, throw up beer'. To which Stipe answered `No, it's `We could gather, throw a fit.'. But *then*, another nearby fan said `You're kidding! I always thought it was `We could gather through our fear.' Stipe told her `Actually, that's *much* better. I'll use that from now on' ! :) This is as literal an example of the circle of communication I've been talking about as you can get!
