I have to admit Roland Barthes is "up there" for me--I first loved _S/Z_
because I happen to love Balzac and admit that I read "Sarrasine" with
more gusto on my first read than Barthes...but what I am fond of now is
the personal ways Barthes played with text, reading and criticism...maybe
he's no god, but as a critic I think he was pretty divine...holy words
