Amazing... Just today, I was wondering if there was a Kerouac list somewhere,
I am sure there is, and it would be very fascinating, since I have read most
of his works and am now reading Big Sur.... However, I honestly can not even
imagine Salinger being in the same category as Kerouac (if I'm spelling it
wrong, forgive me)... Kerouac has given us perhaps the greatest novels
describing the beat generation, and I don't think this will ever be forgotten.
However, future readers of Salinger will see his novels as timeless, as
relevent in his time as in theirs... I think readers in the future will see
Kerouac as a mostly historical writer, not unlike Scott Fitzgerald (I can
already hear the disagreements coming...), while Salinger will be universally
understood, for centuries to come
