I cannot comment on internet essays, but Eberhard Alsen's fine book
GLASS STORIES AS A COMPOSITE NOVEL
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0878752439/qid=991702564/sr=1-5/ref=sc_b_5/107-9721717-3422108
does cover many (if not all, my memory is a little foggy at this point)
of the NINE STORIES. In some situations, he reaches quite a bit to tie
things together, but not as much as I've been known to do upon occasion.
 (Or so I'm often told.)

Also, I seem to remember that Ian Hamilton ably covers Nine Stories in
his book, In Search of JD Salinger
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0394534689/qid=991702225/sr=1-1/ref=sc_b_1/107-9721717-3422108
.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Cecilia.
