Pardon me for jumping into this conversation in mid-stream (without, in
fact, having even read Ms. Malcolm's NYRB piece on Jerome....)
Janet Malcolm (and the New Yorker's infamous 'fact checking' department) got
into a mudslinging match with Jeffrey (sp?) Masson (sp?--pronounced "Mason")
over a profile in which JM took virtually fictional liberties with the facts.
Although I DETEST Mr. Masson, and most of what he apparently stands for,
it's been difficult to read anything Ms. Malcolm writes, with any
seriousness, ever since.
Now I'll go back to work....
