    '... with Salinger, you can't call anything insignificant ...'

    Cec is absolutely on the button. With Salinger,
    EVERYTHING is insignificant.

    As we know, there has been considerable discussion
    about the species designated 'bananafish' - some even
    casting doubt on its very existence. In a recent personal
    communication, Jer has now let slip that the 'fruit' fish he
    had in mind was not 'banana' fish but 'lemon' sole. Before
    switching to his present wholefood diet of greenish pees
    & Lima beans he was an alarmingly ravenous ichthyophage.
    And, of course, because of its homonymous associations,
    sole was, for years, the sole plat du jour chez Salinger.

    'A helluva lot tastier,' as he added archly, 'than the piece
    of cod which passeth all understanding.'
