I think I could be convinced about some stylistic affinities between
Hemingway and Salinger if we only looked at Salinger's earlier work (I
liked Scottie's post too :) -- esp. what he said about For Esme). And
yeah, the fish-fish thing needs research to support it, but it is an
interesting parallel...you never know ;).

But, say, the Salinger that wrote Uncle Wiggly and Pretty Mouth does sound
an awful lot like Cheever to me. It leads me to believe that that's just
how people were writing back then.
