Scottie -- Publications of the Modern Language Association. It's the
Sacred Cow of academic publishing in the humanities here in America,
esp. for literature type folks :). The MLA is where PhD's filter
themselves for job searches, etc. Getting published in it is a huge
feather in the cap. Getting a second read is a nice little feather :).
What's great about them, though, is that even if your manuscript sucks
you get it back (eventually) with readers' comments on them :).

I think, though, will's Language Mafia is probably more entertaining
than my description, although I think the real humor is in the way
editorials stumble over themselves to Not sound like the language mafia,
to apologize for having any influence at all, in fact...
