New America, second try...

Hmmmm,

I sent the following to the list about an hour ago and it has not appeared.
I will try again. If it appears twice at some point, I apologize. If this
does not arrive either, you will never know. Letters, of course, do not always
arrive at their destinations. Two Jacques argued about this once. It makes
for fascinating reading if you are so perversely inclined. Poe and Melville
knew it too. Sometimes messages can be purloined, sometimes they can end up in
the "dead letter" office along with those who would prefer not to. Of course,
if this one does not arrive, you will not have read it and Heisenberg will
have been right yet again (see, for instance, *The Man Who Wasn't There*).

Here's what I wrote:

Hi Kim,

The local Borders had the new translations for *America* and the short
stories.  I bought *America*, but when I went back to get the collection it was
gone.  I'm going to start reading the version of *America* soon (I got sucked back
into Louis-Ferdinand after looking for that quote and now I'm living with
Bardamu after the War again).

Having a fine day and never having had a broken bone, I remain,

--John

PS: Tina and Gretchen -- there's no question that the right meds can make all
the difference. I still believe that, despite my own experiences with Prozac
and Anafranil.  I have too many friends who are much better off because of
these advances in chemistry.
