hi john,

i'm glad we're in agreement. though i'd quibble with
your use of the word 'poet'.

all of these singer-songwriters are just that:
songwriters, not poets.

when we read their words on the page, it's after
having heard them in the song. we write some of the
words down--quote some--but also hear the music
accompanying the words, hear that voice we've grown to
love singing the words. we're not simply reading just
the actual words.

or so it seems to me.

though then again, didn't that bloke named orpheus
carry around with him *his* era's equivalent of the
guitar....
