Let's say, just for kicks, that after Jerome David Salinger "passes
away" (from this life anyway), the rights to his works are released by
his agent(s). Do you think there should be movies adapted from his
works? If so, which ones. If not, why?
Personally, I think that the rights to adapt his works into screenplays
and staged plays should be released. However, not unlike nuclear
weapons it must be carefully controlled so as not to fall into the wrong
hands (for lack of a better example, Oliver Stone) Top on my list
without a doubt would be F. and Z. This seems easily adaptable without
too much alteration (good luck however relating Buddy's letter on film)
It is a highly conversational piece and it has so much to say to so many
people. I am truly convinced if done well, it could be one of the most
beautiful films ever created. My other reason for wanting to see a F.
and Z. movie made is because all the idiots I went to High School with,
still wouldn't understand it, and they would hate it. Bottom on my
list, TCITR. While it is a great story, it would be impossible to
recapture all of Holden's thoughts that race and ricochet around in his
head. It just could Never do the book justice. Besides, they'd
probably cast Leonardo DiCaprio (I don't care if I spelled that wrong)
as Holden. Enough of my ramblings, what do you think?
