I agree with Andrew about one thing, and disagree about another...

1. I agree that "Teddy" seems the most strongly influenced by eastern
thinking of all Salinger's works.  That may not be the case,
however--"Teddy" may just be the most obvious, and if I were more
familiar with buddhism's principal texts I may choose a different story. 


But, lemme tell ya, even then "Teddy" would be at the forefront :)

2. Capitalism an oppressive system?  More people have died in the name of
Marx in the last 100 years than in the name of Christ in the last 2000. 
Stalin, Lenin (estimates range up to 60 million soviets under these
guys), Pol Pot....and what was that raised by students in Tianamen
Square?  A statue of Liberty? Travel a bit before you talk about
Marxism....
