Subject: individual rights?

What strikes me is the unquestioning way the word 'rights'
is being thrown around.
Where I live, this is considered frightfully old hat.
A society consisting of an ever multiplying set of minorities,
each one demanding their rights, ends up like a millipede
on its back with all toes clawing the air.
Rights for women, for homosexuals, for blacks, for Irish,
for black Irish, for black Irish women, for black Irish
homosexual women, for black Irish Protestant homosexual
women, for black Irish Protestant homosexual women
who love whales, for ......
The mark of the statesman in the US, apparently, is that
he'll be seen to cherish & succour each & every one.
How sweet. How crazy.
