Yeah, I know that. I know that, buddy. It's just not why I'm here. I'm here for a bit of light intellectual discussion, not a thorough dissection of Bill Clinton's seedy undercarriage. That's why you can throw any Rilke digression at me and I won't mind.

Back to Salinger. Yes, Bruce, I had wondered about Curtis Caulfield myself. It seemed to me that my dream character - the impossible child of Holden Caulfield and `The Outsiders' Ponyboy Curtis had accidentally strayed into an episode of `It's A Wise Child'! But you're right - it's probably just Salinger being obtuse, although I for one would be pretty damn fascinated to read a story which recounts, once and for all, why and how the Glass and Caulfield families are intimately connected, and all the answers for Holden's quest can be found in Seymour's and vice versa. It's not entirely inconceivable.
