Tell your girlfriend her first reaction to Zooey is the one
shared by the most acute literary minds. And that she's
obviously far too good for her patronising boyfriend
who chuckles so patiently before - no doubt - setting her
straight.
Salinger's post-Catcher prose is only good for the insulating
lining of walls or - at a pinch - as an underlay for carpets.
It can be purchased from any good furnishing store - including
my own - at the very reasonable price of $2.50 per yard.
