Gabe,
I too would like to offer a welcome to our list.
While it is unlikely that you realize it, in your innocence
you you have put us all into a tricky situation, not unlike
the new student who left a tack on a chair and unknowingly pricked
the teacher. While the rest of the class must timidly stifle their
laughter (more a few of them out of a genuine admiration for their
mentor) behind the cupped hands that hide the smiles I think there
is almost the universal sentiment that "he had it coming, the old devil".
So let us venerate, along with Occam's razor and Scottie's scalpel,
Gabe's thumbtack. With its shiny reflective head as well, to remind us of
the deconstructionist twist to Vonnegut's "we are who we pretend to be",
namely "we are who we appear to be", and it's point, well I think we
know where best to apply that.
