Congratulations on the honors English project:) I
agree that a child has to be open to Salinger and that
not everyone will enjoy him. But I've always loved
reading; from comic books and cheesy "young adult"
novels to academic literature, but it wasn't until
Salinger came to me that I realized there was a whole
world out there of literature that is not taught in
school(at least in most schools) and that, in turn,
led me to discover some of the greatest writers. I
don't know if I'll ever have kids(my fiancee is sort
of against the idea of it, lol.), but if I did, I've
always had this fantasy of waiting till my son(not to
be sexist) came home from school suspended, depressed,
or beat up from a fight and I'd hand him a copy of
"Catcher in the Rye";)
