I've always thought that 'A Perfect Day for Bananafish' was probably the
only Salinger story that should be filmed. It's told in the 3rd person so
there wouldn't have to be any stupid voice-overs and it could make a really
good short film, 15-20 minutes. And who would I choose to play Seymour?
Steve Buscemi! You're probably hating me right now, thinking I'm crazy, "Steve
Buscemi is too ugly to play Seymour", no he's not. Seymour was supposed to be
ugly. And Steve Buscemi is SO ugly it's almost beautiful. Maybe you've only
seen him in stuff like Adam Sandler movies and think he's a bad actor but he's
not, if you see movies like 'Trees Lounge' that he directed or 'Fargo'. Or
maybe you're just thinking 'who the f**k is Steve Buscemi?'. He played one of
the kidnappers in Fargo, Mr. Pink in Reservoir Dogs, and has a cameo in almost
all Adam Sandler movies.
For Sybil I'd choose, hmmm, Drew Barrymore!! Well, not like she is today, but
when she was about the same age as when she did E.T. (hey, this is never gonna
happen in reality, I can have whoever I want in my movie, make them older or
younger, whatever, it's my move ;)
I don't know who I'd get to play Muriel. Cameron Diaz maybe. Or just some
beautiful young actress, I don't know.
Anyway, that's how I'd make it.
