It makes me sad to see these stories online. First of all, I still
think fondly about the fun I had researching the stories and making
my xeroxes of them in the mid l980s. Having a sense of the magazines
in which they appeared taught me much about the stories and their
writer. Second, Salinger has made it clear that he is not interested
in collecting these stories and offering them to readers beyond the
time in which they were published (and beyond the research of section
men like me!). However, part of my scholarship is that the stories
have been undervalued by Salinger and contain literary moments that
still ignite passion in readers. Did I bookmark the site? Yes! Do I
accept the fact that the web is changing our way of experiencing
"printed" words? Yes! Am I feeling conflicted? Yes! Will
