Re: a civilised exchange of views

i read scottie's reply as a ruse.

if scottie can honestly look in the mirror and say to
himself that (in regards to will hochman) there was no
malicious sniping, gleeful baiting or downright
cheapshots on his, scottie's part, well, then fine.

each of us who subscribes to this list probably has an
opinion one way or the other.

though i admit i only go back 7 months, so i'm not
privy to what transpired in the past between our
foremost stylist and our foremost salinger expert.

but i lament what has taken place. i don't think the
list will be a better place without will. nor do i
believe posts should contain anything one wouldn't be
willing to say in the same room. i'm not in favor of
'milk pudding' debates, but a tendency to hide behind
the safety of our monitors should be overcome.

with his next post, i'll let scottie have the last
word on this.

and my posts will return to salinger-related themes.
