Jim, Among the rumours, Salinger is to have mentioned a "long war novel" he
had almost finished during a toast to one of his good friends a long time
ago. It was in Newsweek or People or one of those other rags.
Also, according to Richard Elman, he says the book he was working on for
quite some time takes place during wartime.

And we DO know he met Muriel while stationed, and, according to BooBoo after
only a year decided to marry her. He likely hadn't had much a chance to
spend time with her during his tour, though. Seeing how Mrs Fedder (fed
Muriel her aspirations) says "when I think of how long you waited for that
man"

I'm still wodnering if someone can explain how/why a "pint of puss" is
drained from her in SAI. She was in shock I gather, not a way to wake up
form an afternoon nap. But why all this "puss" business?
Also, relating back to what I said about the "happy" Seymour. One who smiled
so much according to Zooey, but rarely when outside his family, Buddy is
smiling when he meets M after the suicide.

There were too many fans of the radio show. Celebrity killed the Blacks.
None of them could "mix well" because they were alien. The stories all
reflect a gratitude for the gifts, but at the same time a deep resentment
for all the brouhaha over the It's A Wise Child program. And Seymour, the
"star" being kicked off. Using the names "black" didn't save them from the
perils of fame, and since all of them (yes booBoo is borderline normal and
housewifey but I would be interested in seeing how her kids make out). In
RHTRBC after the deaf-mute leaves,Buddy finds himself alone, just how he is
30 years later. Except now he can tighten those strings Daniel mentioned and
live vicariously while the rest of the family deteriorates.
