i wonder about this war novel.

i remember seeing reference to salinger attending the
nypd retirement party for an old war buddy. i do find
it very intriguing if our jerry would be making toasts
*and* mentioning his writing all in the same breath.
but you never know.

i don't remember mention of a wartime book in elman.
though i do recall him commenting on salinger's tennis
stroke.

i wonder if d. has a take on this....
