Well, I guess I'll jump in here too. My favorite part in Catcher is while Holden is on his date with Sally, and he asks her if she ever gets fed up or if she hates school. Sally begrudgingly hates school along with Holden, until he clarifies by saying he really hates school. This reminds me of all the times in life when it's so easy to dismiss something that is a burden or slightly inconvenient by saying we hate it. I think it's a terminology that flows a little too easily in our everyday vernacular. Holden's emphatic restating of how much he hates school reinforces for me that we should save those words for the unholy appearance of things we hate and not when we're too lazy to be ashamed of our own petty prejudices.
