I think Holden was wearing a hunting hat because he was, indeed, a hunter. Maybe it was backwards because he was going about things the wrong way-hunting backwards, trying to find solace in other children and in his own childhood. And it was just one more way that Holden could avoid conforming. I hope someone didn't already say this and I'm merely spitting it out again. Cheryl
