Uh, there's a bit more than five or six. There are dozens, and probably
over a hundred galleries in SoHo.

The neighborhood of SoHo (short, for 'South of Houston', the street
dividing the Village and SoHo) is a sad story indeed, though. Once an
enclave to a creative bastion of abstract artists of all different
breeds, SoHo has been commercialized to the 'enth degree. Nowadays, SoHo
is home to the trendy'iest of the trendy, as well as the rich and famous
(one store that my r00mie and I walked into was selling these raver slick
silver pants for one grand). SoHo is so trendy and snotty, it would make
Holden cringe ten times over. Nevertheless, even despite this sorry state
of affairs, there are some great galleries (there are good ones on
Broadyway between Houston and Prince) and some cool art bookstores (Printed
Matter on Wooster is a can't miss).
