Why should we sit around feeling scared of Salinger ? There's absolutely nothing he or any agent/attorney could accuse us of other than expressing our own opinions, and the minute there's a law against that is when I move to Mars. This listserv hasn't been set up to sully his reputation, and I don't see how it could be interpreted in that way. No one's been stupid enough to mail anyone the unpublished stories or whatever, and short of TheSecretGoldfish being sued for Impersonation, (: we've stayed inside the law, or the Law. > I've had terrifying dreams that Salinger's agent/attorney, whatever, is > keeping a lazy eye on us, lest we get out of hand, and that he passes on > to Salinger some of our posts that either threaten to infringe on > Salinger's copyright or his good name--which could be any or all of the > posts that I've contributed--and I'm momentarily frightened and palsied > into silence. The only way for me to continue to contribute to this > list is to promise myself that Salinger has much, much better things to > do than sit around reading what I have to say about him. Interesting how many Salinger/Jesus references have started to pop up (Aha! There's the key to the whole Capitals thread - he or He!) It's understandable - this listserv is basically a community of followers discussing the theology of a Great Being who no one is quite sure actually exists, who permeates our little community with a kind of ethereal presence, who we all look towards for a sign of redemption (the publication of Hapworth, perhaps?), who we sometimes feel is looking over our shoulder, and who has been known to Move in Mysterious Ways .... but we should not fear the wrath of Salinger! Camille Scaysbrook P.S. I'm an ex-Catholic School girl myself so I know of what I speak! P.P.S. If you are reading this, Mr Salinger, I invite you to my webpage at the address below. Thanks for changing all our lives (: verona_beach@geocities.com THE ARTS HOLE @ http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Theater/6442
