First, I should say that my post was a silly exaggeration of a minor
discomfort of mine. I'm still very much an American suburban teenager,
and I have a tiny bit of the tabloid complex--which is not to say that I
read tabloids or anything, but I am in awe of people whose work I
admire, and for that reason am somewhat contemptuous of asking these
people for Autographs, or their advice ("How did you become an actor, Mr
Oldman?" "Do you have any advice for young writers, Mr Salinger?" "Mr
Dylan, I have a tape of my band, I think you'd like it, would you mind
giving it a listen?"). I admit it's a sad sort of demeanor, subscribing
to the Rock Star, Movie Star, Great Artist, thing--elevating these
people above the whole of society--but because of it, I am averse to
bugging them with my own concerns.

I think this list is absolutely brilliant--certainly no affront to Mr
Salinger--but I myself am a bit...I guess *Shy* is the word, when it
comes to the idea of him looking at my Amateur Reader response to his
excellent art.

Brendan
